The so-called experts referred to in this piece are either highly misinformed or just flat out lying in their assertion that, when it comes to lying, Lance Armstrong is not different that the rest of us.  That we all lie is certainly true. This piece is an example of that. But that we are all the same? Not quite. That would be like saying that we are all homicidal and capable of killing and then not making a distinction between an act of self-defense and assault.
Lance Armstrong has a psychological disorder; he’s a “pathological” liar. He would probably pass a lie detector test because he actually is so good at lying that he believes he’s not lying. Crazy as that sounds. That’s a far cry different than a “white” lie which we are all guilty of and usually are easily caught at. To say that we are all like Lance Armstrong is an indictment of this society, though at times it does seem valid. Our politicians, our bankers, our preachers, our real estate agents, our stock brokers, and obviously, our sports heroes, are all guilty of lying. Some are very good at it and some are suffering from the same disorder as Lance. For example; “Tricky Dick” Nixon’s, “I am not a crook” or “Slick Willy” Clinton’s, “I did not have sex with that woman.” And, just like Lance the “oblique” confessions only come after they are exposed. That’s a hallmark characteristic of someone with “sociopathic” tendencies, not your average person on the street.
So, let’s be honest about. Otherwise why believe anyone, including ourselves? Now, that’s crazy!

Like Lance Armstrong, we are all liars, experts say
