The blow back by neo-cons on possible defense cuts has been horrendous. So much so, that it looks like President Obama isn't even willing to take them on.
Food Stamp cuts? No problem. Medicare cuts? No problem. F-16 cuts? WHOA!
The hysterical reaction to the Ukraine political crisis is not surprising given that it has become more and more difficult to sell Americans on the idea that we need a military force than all of the world's combined to ward off rag-tag religious zealots hiding out in caves around the world.
The fact that the Bush/Cheney gang was able to pull off what they did is to this day mind-boggling to anyone with an IQ or just common sense.
