NEW SEASON OF THE WALKING DEAD

IT'S A FEEDING FRENZY!
Johann Wagener 9-20-13

They roam our streets and lurk in malls peering into store fronts looking to feed a distorted and overwhelming appetite for a ----------- phone! Some will fight and maim each other just to have --------a phone! Others will camp out for days in the streets just to be one of the first to own---------a phone!

Fights break out at Apple store in Pasadena with iPhone release

What does this kind of behavior say about this culture and it's social priorities? What will future archaeologists say about the bones of people they dig up that are grasping on to ------------------ a phone!

HERE'S THE POOP ON HEALTH

TOO MUCH INFORMATION
Johann Wagener 9-20-13

WEB MD is hitting new lows in their desperate attempt to attract viewers to their site. It used to be that the info they provided created massive paranoia and spawned a generation of hypochondriacs. Now they want to mix it up with some light humor and focus on whatever little is left of the human anatomy they haven't picked to pieces in one of the hundreds of thousands of mini articles and quizzes they flood the internet with.

JP MORGAN QUALIFIES FOR R.I.C.O.

GUILTY
Johann Wagener 9-19-13

Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act - law intended to eradicate organized crime by establishing strong sanctions and forfeiture provisions.

JP (JP MORGAN) copped a guilty plea which amounted to one of those "slaps on the wrist" fines while JD (JAIME DIMAN) who is the head of this criminal enterprise didn't even get a mention.

London Whale scandal to cost JP Morgan $920m in penalties

The fine, even though it sounds significant, is chump change when compared to the amount of cash they took in  during just 1 quarter of this year.

JP Morgan has recorded a profit of $6.5bn (£4.3bn) for the second quarter of 2013, up 31% from a year ago.

FRANCIS THE FALLIBLE

BLESSED BUT HUMAN
Johann Wagener 9-19-13

Fallibilism (from medieval Latin fallibilis, "liable to err") is the philosophical principle that human beings could be wrong about their beliefs, expectations, or their understanding of the world, and yet still be justified in holding their incorrect beliefs.

This is a Pope who gets down and dirty. He and Mother Teresa would have made a great team.

Pope Bluntly Faults Church’s Focus on Gays and Abortion

In remarkably blunt language,Francis sought to set a new tone for the church, saying it should be a “home for all” and not a “small chapel” focused on doctrine, orthodoxy and a limited agenda of moral teachings.

EXTREME WEALTH PSYCHOTIC DISORDER

LIVING ON THE FRINGES OF REALITY
Johann Wagener 9-19-13

In a previous post about the super rich I posed the question; is accumulating wealth a mental disorder?

The responses were mixed and there were a few who took offense, accusing me of being jealous. Jealous? That's silly. Who would be jealous of the village idiot which is who I compare these people to. They just happen to be idiots with money; so much of it that they do really foolish and crazy things which is indicative of someone suffering from form of "psychosis." Thus, my proposing a new diagnostic category for the next DSM publication. To get the diagnosis I would ask that these people take a 1 question test which would consist of the following;

#1- If you had $75.00 and needed to spend it, which of the following options would you choose?

a) Buy a bag of 5 ice cubes based on the following;

Gläce Luxury Ice is the world’s leading premium drink-ice brand. Our proprietary manufacturing process creates a zero-taste(TM) profile ice which, unlike traditional ice products, allows the consumer to maximize the beverage experience. Our elegant design provides minimum dilution and maximum cooling, greatly enhancing enjoyment at the point of consumption. Gläce Luxury Ice provides consumers with a top-shelf choice for ice that matches their premium spirit selection.

b) Write a check to the American Red Cross based on the following;

The Red Cross helps with all disasters including hurricanes, tornadoes and floods, but fires make up 93 percent of the more than 74,000 disasters each year in the U.S.

If you chose "a" I would suggest you seek treatment because your ability to discern real from fantasy is seriously compromised. Anyone believing the blurb to be true and then actually buying 5 ice cubes for $75.00 is not living in the real world.

I don't mean to paint all wealthy people with this brush. I'm sure there's a bunch of them out there that are not living in the fringes of reality and do their part in contributing to the welfare of their fellow humans.

I'm referring to the "morbidly" wealthy; much like the morbidly obese, who hoard wealth to the extremes and beyond what a normal person would consume. Just like the morbidly obese they make up a small percentage of the population and you can find most of them on the Forbes 400 list which, by the way, requires having more than a $ Billion dollars to get on this year.

The average net worth of those on this list is $5 billion — each. Together, they're worth a whopping $2 trillion. You need to scrape at least $1.3 billion to make the list at all (we were so close), but it's heartening to learn that over half the billionaires on the list weren't born with a silver spoon — they earned their insane wealth all by themselves.

NOTE: I tend to disagree with the last part of that sentence because I can't phantom anyone being able to generate that much wealth " all by themselves." People like Buffet and probably Zuckerberg are not disillusion and recognize that it took the collective effort of many people to create the wealth they hold.

As for those on the list that "inherited" their wealth (had it handed to them) my guess is that they don't even have a concept of what it means to "work for a living." Work in their bubble consists of looking for ways to spend the money they hoard.

The closest one can come to self-mad wealth is by buying a winning lotto ticket.

BRAIN FREEZE

IT'S JUST ICE STUPID!
Johann Wagener 9-18-13

$ Billion Dollar houses, $ Million Dollar cars, $500,000.00 wrist watches, $38,000.00 handbags, $1,000 ice cream deserts, and now for those  who; and I quote Stephen Colbert, "would like to literally piss their money away" a $75.00 ice cube so you can experience frozen water in a glass. I wonder if there's a connection with having too much money and sh-t for brains?  No wonder this country is on a fast track to disasterville.

Simply the world's best cocktail ice

Gläce Luxury Ice Co. ships hand-carved ice cubes right to your door. The cubes are actually 2.5” spheres and made of frozen purified water. The combination of their large size and the fact that they are crystal clear and tasteless make them the perfect way to keep your cocktail cool.

They don’t come cheap though; a bag of 5 Gläce ice cubes will run you $75--that’s 15 bucks a ball! A bulk order of 240 spheres costs $2,440. However, don’t fine spirits deserve the best quality ice cube you can buy?

AMERICA STRONG

LIVING THE DREAMJohann Wagener 9-17-13

The American Dream survived the Great Recession. The rich are as rich as ever and the poor are just as poor as they ever were. The only thing that's changed is that those poor - poor folks are painfully aware that the American Dream is just that, a dream.

Retirement is now a thing to dream about, not actually do. The home you once thought was a bottomless pool of money is now nothing more than a dried up hole of pain and heartache.  Single family is a thing of the past just as single income has been. It takes multiple families with multiple incomes just to get by. Leaving anything for the next generation other than your reverse mortgage to tag on to their college loan is the norm.

The battle cry is "America Strong" which it's going to need if we are to survive this nightmare.

Amid the halting recovery, homelessness has increased in cities such as New York. Above, a homeless man sleeps under an American flag blanket on a park bench in Brooklyn.

 Poverty rates, median income unchanged in 2012, despite recovery

The number of people living in poverty stood at 46.5 million in 2012, representing 15% of the country's population for the second year in a row. In 2010, the poverty rate reached 15.1%, the peak of the recent business cycle.

The poverty figure was 12.5% in 2007, the year before the Great Recession.

At 15%, the poverty rate remains at close to the peak level since the War on Poverty began in 1965. The highest since then was 15.2% in 1983.

For 2012, the poverty rate for children was 21.8%, essentially unchanged from 2011.
