FIDEL; ANTI-ESTABLISHMENT OUTSIDER

Here was a true outsider who defied the worlds greatest super power and survived.

Both vilified and glorified he withstood the test of time  and  was able to hold on to power to lead his country for 50 years and stand up to 10 US presidents.

Fidel was at the center stage of world events for an extraordinary sweep of time. He seized power in the age of Dwight Eisenhower and remained there until George W. Bush’s second term in office.

He has died in the waning days of the Presidency of Barack Obama, the first American President in all that time to travel to Havana, an event that took place after he and Raúl negotiated a diplomatic breakthrough in 2014.
