They are supposed to make people laugh at themselves and sometimes others primarily about the most mundane of our shortcomings as humans.
Instead what we get are a pack of attack dogs who devote the bulk of their shows viciously attacking and demeaning people they (or their bosses) don't agree with. Night after night, week after week we are inundated with a barrage of mostly exaggerated or made up vitriol couched in between a few actual humorous lines.
The bulk of the trash talk this year was aimed at Donald Trump and the 57 million plus "deplorable"
Americans who elected him president; in spite of the "shock and awe" blitz he was subjected to.
That in itself should be a clue that what these comedians are doing is a big waste of air time and our time (the audience) and maybe it's time they get back to what they do best; make people laugh.
It starts with the big guns like;
‘SNL,’ Bill Maher, and Awful Political Humor
and
Stephen Colbert’s Mournful Election Night Special
and
and
Along with a few of the more mediocre ones like John Oliver and Sarah Silverman; funny still, but boring.
And then there's the hard core blood seeking hounds like;
Leave the politics to the politicians many of which are clowns in their own right.
