AMERICA! WE HAVE A PROBLEM! GUNS!

NO! - NOT LIKE THE ONE CHARLSTEN HESTON CHALLENGED US TO PRY FROM HIS "COLD DEAD HANDS"

If only that were the problem. Mr Heston's elegant rhetoric refers to a time when the gun he is holding was the weapon of choice; one of only a few, that citizens of a newly liberated land could defend themselves with. That's part and parcel of what the Founding Fathers were referring to when drafting the 2nd Amendment.

NOT TO WORRY NRA! No one wants to take your muskets away. The problem is not muskets or personal firearms; both of which we can buy, own, and use freely for protection, sport, collecting. That is, and will remain, our right under the 2nd Amendment. NOT A PROBLEM.

So what is the problem? Some would say it's TV shows and movies. Others say its video games. Others lay the blame on those who "lose it" and, for reasons still not really known, decide to kill themselves and take a bunch of other people along with them. That, they say, is a mental health problem. Finally, after all is said and done, there are those that say our obsession with guns is the problem. That, opinion, for the most part, is as close to the truth we can get. More guns in the hands of more people will result in more death from accidents, suicides, or homicides. That, however, is still not the problem being addressed today.

The problem we are referring to here is with one type of gun; the semi-automatic "Assault" weapons loaded with high capacity ammo clips. Like this one which is similar to the one used to mow down the children at Stony Brook.

AND, THIS IS WHY THE SHOOTER WAS ABLE TO CAUSE AS MUCH CARNAGE AS HE DID.

This is the type of gun that was used in slaughtering a classroom full of children, some who's bodies were so riddled with bullets (up to a dozen wounds) it was almost impossible to identify them. A scene that, if we could see it, would be seared so deep into the American psyche, there would be no debate.Unfortunately, even though we have the 1st Amendment and the Freedom of Information Act, no one other than the victims and law enforcement will be privy to the "crime scene." To see, first hand, the blood soaked classroom piled up with the mangled corpses of young children.

YET, SOME STILL INSIST THAT THIS IS NOT A PROBLEM

TO ALL YOU GUN OWNERS AND 2ND AMENDMENT ADVOCATES;

YOUR RIGHTS AND GUNS ARE SAFE!

The problem being addressed here is with "assault" weapons and high capacity ammo; both of which when in the wrong hands, has resulted in numerous tragedies like the one at Newtown. These weapons are not used to shoot squirrels or to practice knocking tin cans of your back yard fence. These are weapons of mass destruction used for the sole purpose of killing a large number of people with great precision and, little or no effort, in the blink of an eye.. If we refuse to restrict and regulate these types of weapons, rest assured, the massacre at Stony Brook will not be the last. Even though there is no way to prevent all of them there is much that can be done to reduce them and and the amount of carnage they cause. Even if we only save 1 life it will be worth the effort.

Children don't mince words or play politics. They speak from the heart. Something we can all learn to do.

THE NRA's SOLUTION? ; MORE GUNS!

Armed guards in all our schools? Not a bad idea, BUT..... how about our malls, our theaters, our churches?

Does Mr. La Pierre really expect us to believe that a security guard with a hand gun is going to stop a suicidal individual donned in body armor and carrying an assault rifle loaded with a 100 round ammo clip from mowing down rooms full of our children. All this would do is add 1 more to the body count and completely ignore the "gorilla in the room".

HERE IS WHAT THE PRESIDENT SUGGESTS

For those of us who understand English the message the President is sending is simple and straightforward. The 2nd Amendment is left in tact just the same as when our Founders drafted it. Our right to buy, own, and use guns remain. What is being addressed is what type of guns, how much ammo, and what we need to do in order to have a gun. The message President Obama is sending has been echoed by others on both sides of the aisle; Reagan and Bush both supported gun control and bans on assault weapons, though those on the right try very hard to ignore or distort the history.

HERE IS THE NRA's RESPONSE TO PRESIDENT OBAMA AND THOSE THAT SUPPORT HIM

IF YOU WONDER WHY THERE IS THIS KIND OF CRAZY OPPOSITION TO SANE GUN CONTROL YOU NEED LOOK NO FURTHER THAN THOSE THE NRA PANDERS TO.

THOSE, OFTEN CALLED, THE "MERCHANTS OF DEATH" THE GUN AND AMMO MANUFACTURERS WHO MAKE HUGE PROFITS FROM THE PARANOIA THEY FEED US THROUGH ORGANIZATIONS LIKE THE NRA WHO SPEND MILLIONS BRIBING (OH SORRY, LOBBYING) POLITICIANS TO DO THEIR BIDDING.

LET'S NOT FORGET THE "NEO-CONS" WHO OPERATE IN THE SHADOWS AND SALIVATE EACH TIME ANOTHER MASSACRE OCCURS OR A CONFLICT HEATS UP ANYWHERE ON THE PLANET. TO THEM VIOLENCE AND DEATH MEAN LARGER PROFITS; THE MORE THE BETTER.

THESE ARE OUR REAL ENEMIES, NOT THE "BOOGIEMAN" THEY CONJURE UP FOR US. AND THEY ARE THE ONES THAT NEED TO BE SENT A MESSAGE;

"ENOUGH" IS "ENOUGH"
