Reporter questions whether security video of Pelosi at salon is legal. It doesn't end well. - TheBlaze

Pelosi was busted having her hair done at a San Francisco salon Monday afternoon despite the salon being shuttered by the coronavirus-related lockdown restrictions. Surveillance video released by the salon owner showed Pelosi walking around the salon with wet hair — and without a face mask.

"It was a slap in the face that she went in, you know, that she feels that she can just go and get her stuff done while no one else can go in, and I can't work," salon owner Erica Kious told Fox News.

What did the reporter say?

Carla Marinucci, a senior Politico reporter covering California, responded by suggesting whether the recording of Pelosi was legal.

"Have to ask upon seeing this: Is it legal in CA — a 'two party consent' state — to videotape someone in a private home or business without their consent?" she asked on Twitter.

What was the response to Marinucci?

She did not receive the answer she was seeking — but got much more than she bargained for, instead:

• "It's security cam footage. That this is your biggest question suggests you are a part of the problem. Anything to say about the woman who owns this salon, can't open and can't support her 2 children as a single mother having to endure this indignity?" one person said.

• "Here's a 'senior writer' at @politico who is unaware that it's legal to videotape someone breaking the law - even if it's the Speaker of the House," yet another person mocked.
• "Seems like the kind of thing that you, as a California reporter, should've investigated the answer to before tweeting, rather than instinctively seeking to run interference for one of the most powerful politicians in the country," another person said.
• "This is why Pelosi thinks she can get away with anything. She breaks the law and a reporter goes after the source, not Pelosi," another person responded.
• "That's definitely the story here. That god***n small business and their security cameras. Good journamalisming," another person mocked

Portland man accused of two murders was jailed days prior for interfering with police at protest - TheBlaze

A Portland man accused of double murder was arrested just days before for interfering with police during a protest — but the charge related to the protest was dismissed the next day, and he was released from jail, KOIN-TV reported.

Cassy Leaton, 22, and Najaf "Nate" Hobbs, 39, were stabbed to death June 16, and police arrested Phillip Lawrence Nelson two days later, the station said, adding that the suspect faces two murder charges and is being held without bail.

But on June 12, Nelson was arrested at a protest in downtown Portland on a misdemeanor charge of interfering with a peace officer, KOIN said, citing court records. However, that charge was dismissed the next day, the station said. Booking information indicates Nelson was released from the Multnomah County Detention Center.

This summer, Portland protesters routinely have been released in such a fashion following their arrests. As the Oregonian reported:

Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt has said his office won't pursue demonstrators accused of interfering with police and disorderly conduct, among other charges, if the allegations don't involve "deliberate'' property damage, theft or force against another person, or threats of force.

As for the murders, KOIN reported that they may have stemmed from an ongoing dispute between the suspect and victims. Leaton and Hobbs' roommate told police they were renting a unit in a fourplex from Nelson, who claimed to be the owner of the building, the station said, citing court records. But when the three roommates learned Nelson actually was squatting there, the trio changed the locks to their unit, which angered Nelson, KOIN reported, citing records.

Acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf has warned Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler that if he continues to refuse federal assistance for his city, "the federal government will have no choice but to protect our American citizens.”

"We are standing by to support Portland," Wolf wrote in a letter dated Aug. 31, 2020 to Wheeler, Fox News reported Monday. "At the same time, President Trump has made it abundantly clear that there will come a point when state and local officials fail to protect its citizens from violence, the federal government will have no choice but to protect our American citizens.”

For over three months, there have been nightly violent protests in Portland's streets that have included three recent killings after protesters and pro-Trump groups clashed. Law enforcement officials have also made 255 arrests and declared 23 unlawful assemblies and riots. 

Wolf told Wheeler in the letter that "you have stood by passively, arguing that the nightly violence 'will ultimately burn itself out.' The evidence demonstrates otherwise."

His letter came after Wheeler wrote to Trump in an Aug. 28, 2020 letter that once again, he was rejecting Trump's offer of federal law enforcement for Portland because the city did not need Trump's "politics of division and demagoguery."

"Portlanders are onto you," Wheeler wrote. "We have already seen your reckless disregard for human life in your bumbling response to the COVID pandemic. And we know you’ve reached the conclusion that images of violence or vandalism are your only ticket to reelection."

Wolf, while asking Wheeler to reconsider, said that the violent acts in Portland are "evils you can stop — and must stop. Consider what happened recently in (Kenosha) Wisconsin—where the State of Wisconsin requested and received federal law enforcement assistance and the violence and looting there ended.”
